REFLECTIVE JOURNAL
As I embark on
this assignment with my group members, I expected to plan ahead and have fun
along the process of researching and interviewing the interviewee as well as maintain
professionalism along the way. Minor hiccups during the interview were expected
to happen as most of us do not have any experience in interviewing so I figured
most of us would be nervous in conducting the interview. Thankfully, my group
members were cooperative and hardworking as we managed to prepare ourselves for
the interview as we have draft out the questions to be asked to the interviewee
before we conducted the interview. There were minor hiccups where there was
awkward silence in between as we were nervous and took time to ask the
questions.
The highlights of
the interview were that the interviewee was very friendly which encouraged us
to ask more questions and it eased our nervousness as we conducted the interview.
Also, being the talkative one of the group, I managed to pull out questions
impromptu besides the fixed questions we drafted out to ask him. Other than
that, my group leader, Benedict was very hard working because he finished his
part of the assignment way before the deadline and so we could pinpoint his
mistakes early and adjustment was able to be made before the deadline. I’m a slight perfectionist and so I tend to
proof read to make sure the design, content and layout of the assignment is
clean, precise and clear therefore it became an advantage as I was able to fix
any careless mistakes made before submitting.
Some of the problems we’ve faced were some of
my group members did not act as professionally as some came in very casual and
sloppy attire and some were playing with their phone during the interview process
which I find it to be extremely rude. Therefore one of us decides to tell the
other off and to be professional. In addition, the interviewee was busy at the
time of the interview as he had to run back and forth to answer calls and
attend to guests despite it was a non-peak time. We remained patient as we wait
for the interviewee to run his errands and be understanding of the situation. When
it came to writing the business report, some of our group members struggled
with referencing and most of the references were wrongly written. Thankfully,
some of us were familiar with Harvard referencing and managed to help one
another to fix the issue.
I’d definitely
wish we would have a mock interview and set a dressing code before going for
the actual interview to prepare ourselves to be able to speak with confidence
and our speech would be conducted clearly in order for the interviewee to be
able to understand and interpret our questions followed by a clear answer which
could be beneficial in writing the business report. Also, I would have set up
more group meetings so we can keep track of each other’s work and discuss more
to further improve our assignment instead of just sending our part of the job
online for everyone to see.
I learnt that we
have to be very patient in everything we do especially when working in a group
as not everyone works at the same pace as another and I have to be more
understanding in that sense. Also, I learnt that I should lay back a little and
allow my group members to take some time to write the report as I can be a bit
of a control freak and worry too much on what others are doing. All in all, it
was a great experience and I’ve gained a lot from conducting the interview as
well as writing the report and working with my group.
